Chris Lynn’s Fireworks Lead Australia Champions to Big Win Over West Indies in WCL 2025

Northampton: Australia Champions made light work of the West Indies Champions on Wednesday, clinching a dominant eight-wicket victory at the County Cricket Ground in the seventh match of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 — thanks to a blistering knock from Chris Lynn.

Set a modest target of 143, the Aussies made a mockery of the chase, reaching the finish line in just 9.3 overs. It was a brutal display of power-hitting, led by Lynn’s thunderous 81 off just 27 balls, leaving West Indies bowlers with no answers.

The chase began in top gear as the Australians raced to 34 in the first three overs, losing Shaun Marsh (9) to Ashley Nurse. But that proved to be a mere speed bump.

Lynn took charge, launching into an all-out assault. He raced to his half-century in just 20 balls, clearing the ropes with ease and regularity. His innings included eight towering sixes and six fours, pushing the required run rate completely out of the equation. By the time he fell in the 8th over, Australia had already reached 111.

Ben Dunk picked up where Lynn left off, smashing an unbeaten 30 off just 9 deliveries, including three sixes, to finish the game in style.

Earlier in the day, Peter Siddle led Australia’s bowling effort with a sharp spell that yielded three wickets, helping restrict West Indies Champions to 142/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

After being asked to bat first, West Indies lost William Perkins early. Although Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle tried to stabilise the innings with a 36-run partnership, both departed before taking control. Gayle scored 21 (15 balls, 4 fours), while Smith added 22 off 20, hitting a six and three boundaries.

The real blow came when Chadwick Walton — their previous match hero — was dismissed on the very first ball, leaving the Windies reeling at 56-4. The innings never quite recovered.

Lendl Simmons top-scored with a restrained 29 off 28, hitting two sixes and a four. But the Australian bowlers maintained their grip, with Nathan Coulter-Nile picking up two wickets, and tight spells from Brett Lee and Steve O’Keefe ensuring West Indies never took off.

With this win, Australia strengthen their position in the tournament standings as the WCL 2025 continues to heat up across venues in England — including Edgbaston, Headingley, Grace Road, and Northampton.
